During the winter we run a variety of backcountry ski trips. Common areas that we travel are the back of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains (Musical Bumps, Cowboy Ridge, Decker), and off the Duffey Lake Road, north of Pemberton (Marriott Basin, Rohr, Cerise Creek).
For those who have never had the pleasure of ski touring, or want to have a gentle day, we offer introductory backcountry ski days at various times during the season. Typically those days are spent in the Musical Bumps, off Whistler mountain.
Once a year we also do the Spearhead Traverse, a three-to-five-day traverse across the stunning ring of glaciers that link Blackcomb and Whistler, and the heart of our newest hut project. For more on the Spearhead Huts Project, go here.
We require RSVP and signed waivers on all trips. Contact information, dates, times, and meeting locations are all posted on the calendar.
We do not supply any gear, and recommend you purchase your own. If you are new to town, you can visit Escape Route in the Marketplace. They offer rentals as well as the opportunity to buy. If you are a section member, you can get 10% off purchases, but bring your current membership with you.
We generally climb week nights at Cheakamus Canyon. No experience is necessary, although you do need to bring a harness, belay device, and shoes. Rentals can be acquired at the Escape Route in the Village: 604-938-3228.
Last season our hiking trips took off, and what began as a group of 4 exploded into a stunning group of over 60. Most hikes are done in a day, and vary in time and terrain from 2 hours on a gentle gravel path, to 8 hours over rugged territory. An overnight at Callaghan Lodge was popular and happened in terrific weather. As well, there is often a three-to-five hike to the Spearhead Traverse, an incredible hike that offers jaw-dropping views of our latest hut project. For more information on the Spearhead Huts Project, go here.
We require RSVP and signed waivers on all trips. Contact information, dates, times, and meeting locations are all posted on the calendar. Please note that the Google calendar may only show three events/hut bookings for the day, but a default number with a + will show there are extra events. Clicking on this number will open up the rest of the events on that day.
You must bring your own hiking boots, packs, water, and snacks. Moleskin is highly recommended.
